Abstract
The increasing competition between companies in the present era, along with the globalization of exchanges, the expansion of business activities from local to regional and from regional to global, and the shift in business philosophy from product orientation to customer and demand orientation, have created conditions for companies and organizations to gain a competitive advantage by building agile and intelligent supply chains. One of the key factors behind the success of pioneering companies is their ability to rapidly adapt to complex and fast-paced developments while complying with international standards.
One of the international standards in the field of logistics and supply chain management is the GS1 standards developed by the global GS1 organization. These standards, offered in three categories—identification, automatic data capture, and data sharing— contribute significantly to improving supply chain processes. The GS1 Iran Center, which is the official and exclusive representative of this organization in Iran, provides these standards in the country; however, for various reasons, the adoption of these services has not been widespread and has not reached all parts of the supply chain.
In this study, first, the types of services provided by the GS1 Iran Center in the field of supply chain management were explained, and then a comprehensive needs assessment of various organizations and industries in the country regarding the services of this center was conducted. Using survey research and questionnaires, the needs of different types of organizations for the services of GS1 Iran Center were identified and prioritized. Finally, policy recommendations and strategic measures for promoting the use of GS1 standards in the country to optimize supply chain processes were presented.
